First off, it’s essential to remember what a sale actually is
Each and every sale you make is based on a relationship of trust between you and your customer. In simple terms your customer spends their precious cash on you because they trust you more than any other brand that sells similar products.
The purpose of all your marketing is therefore to build and establish this trust.
Here’s a helpful prompt for you to screen grab and stick somewhere noticeable as a reminder.
So, when you are thinking about how to convert engagement to sales on Instagram you are really thinking about how you can fast track your followers trust in you.
What can you do to collapse time and short cut trust?
The most effective way to do this is to let your followers get to know YOU, the person behind the brand.
When you come out from behind the posts and become more visible you give your followers someone to connect with, you give them a chance to really get to know what your business stands for, you give them the opportunity to trust you.
Yes, over time (a long time) there is chance your posts will do this, but I know you don’t want to wait that long or do that much work before you see a result.
Let’s dive into how to convert engagement to sales on Instagram using my 5 simple weekly tasks.
Task 1: Post a founder led grid post
This is all about giving your followers a person to connect with so the grid image should be of you. The grid caption needs to have a personal angle, may be the reason you started your business, may be some ‘get to know me’ facts, may be details of your mission, may be what you stand for.
Always include a call to action, questions work really well and encourage followers to leave a comment that leaves the door open for you to engage on a deeper level by replying or starting a conversation in the DMs.
Task 2: Create an Instagram Story that features the founder
Like the grid post this task is all about fast tracking trust by giving followers a real person to get to know, like and love. Take followers behind the scenes and show your products being created, talk about the values your brand is built on, share books or podcast recommendations you’re customers will enjoy.
Once again, ask questions and use the built in engagement tools to encourage conversations that get you on the trust short cut.
Task 3: Post about your brand themes
Your brand themes are what your business stands for, the values that drive you, your purpose. Sharing these is super powerful as your themes reach out, catch the attention of and magnetise your customer. Now more than ever consumers want to buy from businesses that align with their own values, these kind of posts allow them to quickly identify whether you are one of those brands.
Task 4: Use Instagram Story Engagement tools
I know this is a weekly checklist, but when it comes to engagement tools I would recommend you use them every day. When a follower takes the time to answer a poll or quiz, or slide the slider, they are giving a clear sign that they are interested in your business. So, using engagement tools helps you identify warm leads. Engagement tools highlight who is already on the path to trusting you. You can then develop these relationships by diving into the DMs and starting a conversation.
Task 5: Have at least 10 DM conversations with followers
It’s all about turning those warm leads into hot ones and the fastest way to do that is to chat. Use the topic that attracted the attention of the follower to kick things off. Remember you are starting a conversation so ask questions to encourage responses. Then just let the conversation roll. Keep your eyes peeled on your webshop as it won’t be too long before you see these conversations showing up as sales.
