Forget about the number of followers you have!

At times it seems like the only way to grow our online business is through volume and numbers.

How many likes we have on Facebook, how many followers we have on Instagram, how many sales we make through our web shop, how many people are on our email list, how many people are in our Facebook Group!!!!!

It seems we are constantly being pushed to look for volume, volume, volume in absolutely everything we do.

And worse, we compare ourselves to others based on numbers.

How have they got that many followers?

What are they doing that’s so special?

Well, today I want to take that pressure off your shoulders. I want to give you something much more beneficial and enjoyable to focus on.

I want you to focus on quality.

There is absolutely no point in having 20000 followers if the majority of them care nothing for you or your products. Just focusing on the numbers will not grow your business.

So forget about the numbers and start talking to the followers you already have.

1000 followers who interact with you and love what you do will make money and will help you grow your business.

Indie beauty is not about volume, it’s about engagement and relationships and sharing.

It’s about creating a community around your brand where your customers and followers are centre stage and made to feel special and involved.

It’s about quality interactions with people who love you and what your brand stands for.

A rather direct question for you.

Honestly, how often are you talking to your followers?

I imagine its pretty infrequently, if at all.

The norm is that we put a post up and walk away. We may check in later and see how many likes and comments we’ve had, but other than that we don’t really get involved.

The chances are you barely look at your followers posts and hardly ever like or comment on them.

Well, social media is not called SOCIAL for no reason.

If you want to grow your beauty brand using social media then you have to start getting social.

You have to start having conversations. You have to start focusing on the followers you have.

The really good news is that as you begin to get social the increased engagement on your platforms makes you more visible and your followers grow organically.

So, I have a bit of a challenge for you today. I want you to strategize being social. I want you to make a conscious decision and effort to start talking.

And I mean real conversations. Not just liking or posting silly, meaningless emojis. I mean making quality comments on your follower’s posts. I mean replying from the heart to anyone who takes the time to comment on one of your posts.

Now, I can hear what you’re saying.

You are totally freaking out about how much time this is going to take.

My advice is to schedule your social time and limit it. May be you just allocate 15 minutes a day. Or you pledge to comment and interact 10 times a day.

It will be worth it. Not only will your engagement and followers increase but the relationships you make and foster will lead to an increase in sales.

If you are freaking out then all the other brand founders are freaking out too. How many of them will ignore this advice, how many of the will say, “yeh, it makes sense but I just don’t have the time to do it right now”.

Make a positive decision, take the lead, be an early adopter, put in the work and you will reap the rewards.

Indie brands totally own this strategy. It’s what stands you apart from those large, cumbersome heritage brands.

So, are you going to accept my challenge and get social.
